Like it or not, books ARE judged by their covers. Having an eye-catching and attractive book cover can persuade more readers to read and review your book. Our free and easy-to-use Cover Designer can help you create a polished cover. The following step-by-step guide shows you how to use the Cover Designer.
1. Head On Over to the Dashboard
The dashboard is where you can upload your book for either peer review or publication. The dashboard can be found under the Read and Review or Publish tabs in the main navigation. In the dashboard, click on either “workshop your book” if you want to submit a book for peer review or “start a new eBook” if you want submit your completed book for publication. (For more information on uploading your manuscript to Book Country, check out our blog post). If you already have a manuscript uploaded to Book Country, you can click the grey “edit” button next to the title.
2. Save Project
If you are starting a new project, you must first save it before you can create a cover. Click the blue “Save” button on the bottom left hand side of the page. A pop-up menu should appear that will prompt you to add the Title, Subtitle (optional) and Author’s name before you can save.
If you already have project started, you can click on the grey “Cover” button below your title.
3. Choose from over 200 Free Images for Your Cover!
Under “Create New Cover” on the right hand side of the page, you have the option of uploading a completed cover, uploading an image you already have and adding the title and name, or choosing an image from our free image gallery.
To select a free image to use for our cover, select the “image gallery” button.
You will then be able to choose which image you will use for your cover. The images are grouped by category, such as “Food and Drink” and “Animals.” The “Book Country” category has a selection of cover templates based on genre. If you are looking for a particular image, enter your query in the search box and click the blue “search” button.
Once you’ve decided which image to use, click on the image. A menu should appear confirming the image you’ve chosen for your cover. Click the blue “use this image” button.
4. Add Title, Subtitle, and Author’s Name to Your Cover
Once you’ve selected an image, you will then be forwarded to our online Cover Designer.
In the Cover Designer, you can change the font, size, color, and orientation of the title, subtitle, and author’s name. For example, let’s edit the title, Waiting for Summer. First, click on the title. The title should then appear in the edit box below the Author’s Name field. Highlight the title in the edit box, and change the font, size and color of the text to your liking.
When you’re editing the title in the edit box, the title also changes in the original Title field. Once you are satisfied with the title, click and drag the original title onto the cover image. Do the same process when editing the subtitle and author’s name.
Once your beautiful cover is created, you can then click “save” or “save & exit” to leave the Cover Designer.
5. Your Cover is Created!
You now have a new cover! If you want, you can create multiple covers for the same book and choose which cover you like best at a later time.
